The Hamad Bin Jassim Center for Integrated Rehabilitation Care in the Gaza Strip, which was built by the Jassim and Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation, embodies the lofty humanitarian message that the Foundation aims to devote by leaving a humanitarian imprint that aims to meet the needs and requirements of people with disabilities of all ages, especially those with paralysis. Brain and multiple disabilities in Various fields of rehabilitation, care, supportive medical services and special education in accordance with the best medical systems and modern rehabilitation methods to enable them to be active in their communities and support their aspirations to live a decent life. The comprehensive qualitative services provided by the center, which was established with funding from His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani – Founding member, it is not limited to traditional therapeutic interventions, but extends to include educational aspects for various cases of people with multiple and permanent disabilities through the Saja School affiliated with the center. The Jassim and Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation, through those in charge of it, sees the Hamad Bin Jassim Integrated Rehabilitation Care Center as a practical translation of the Foundation’s mission of “Health and Education for a Better Life.”
Comprehensive services
Hamad Bin Jassim Center for Integrated Rehabilitation Care provides rehabilitative services starting from the early childhood stage up to the stage of self-reliance and training in a profession that helps him integrate with the surrounding environment and the local community. During this stage, the beneficiaries receive supportive medical services that help them develop their abilities, such as (physical therapy) Occupational therapy (speech therapy and speech problems), in addition to behavior modification and family guidance on how to deal with the child and follow up on the exercises he receives.
This is what was expressed by the parents of some of the beneficiaries who expressed their deep gratitude to the Hamad Bin Jassim Rehabilitation Care Center, regarding the integrity and comprehensiveness of the services provided through a qualified and specialized staff. The child’s mother, “Adly,” said: “My son could not walk and his speech was incomprehensible, in addition to his inability.” To hold the pen, as he had not previously joined any organization Educational, but after enrolling in the early childhood department of the Hamad Bin Jassim Center for Integrated Rehabilitation Care, my child became able to hold a pen and write, and his speech became intelligible, enabling him to express himself and meet his needs, thanks to God first and then the center’s work team who made tremendous efforts with My child went through physical, occupational, and speech therapy sessions. I would also like to extend special thanks to his teacher for her efforts with him, as he can now perform traditional arithmetic operations such as addition and subtraction, and he will be enrolled in Saja School for Special Education during the next year.
Comprehensive treatment plans
For her part, the mother of the child, “Ahmed,” who was enrolled in the center’s Saja School for Special Education, explained that her son was in government schools and was not able to read and write and was subjected to severe bullying by the students. After he was included in the school and the case was diagnosed by specialists and the teacher, he was dealt with through An integrated treatment plan was developed that included physical therapy and educational support, and Ahmed is now in the fifth grade, able to read, write, and perform mathematical operations, and, God willing, he will receive a certificate approved by the Ministry of Education with his friends at the end of the year. The mother also indicated that her son’s social life has become better than before and has disappeared. He has a barrier of fear and shyness from the people around him due to his encouragement and increased self-confidence.
Many parents also shed light on the lives of their children before benefiting from the services of the Hamad Bin Jassim Center for Integrated Rehabilitation Care, as they expressed this by saying: They were marginalized in the environment surrounding them and their abilities were mocked, which turned them into aggressive people. They used to beat the children of their peers. To release their anger, they joined the center Within the Vocational Training Department, given that their ages ranged between twenty and twenty-five years, which constituted a fundamental turning point in their societal and professional lifestyle, a special rehabilitation plan was developed for them, which included preparing the environment surrounding them and working with them, starting with self-care for themselves and ending with providing supportive services. Specializing in speech therapy and special education, which will make them people capable of learning a profession that helps them become self-reliant. Thanks to God, there are many cases who have passed the treatment and rehabilitation period and joined the center’s work team and work in many departments under the job title of “reporter” and have turned into productive and loving people who support children and play with them. Their violent behavior and shyness disappeared.
Humanitarian situations
Among the cases that the center hosts and supervises their treatment, the child’s mother, “Mahmoud,” explained her child’s condition, saying: My son has been benefiting from the center’s services for two years, and upon his arrival he was suffering from an inability to walk, but now, after undergoing a comprehensive treatment plan, he is able to walk and go up and down the stairs. He was also included in the early childhood department after his health condition improved for learning and his ability to read and write. I extend my sincere thanks to the Hamad Bin Jassim Center for Integrated Rehabilitation Care, the only center that has benefited my son and achieved wonderful results in terms of treating the condition, in addition to the specialized staff who have shown absolute understanding and made an effort. Great and continuous efforts were made to achieve the outstanding result in my child’s case.
Hadeel, 28 years old, who lives in the center’s permanent women’s shelter section and suffers from a mobility disability and low mental abilities and receives physical therapy services, expressed her past and present reality by saying: I was previously an isolated girl who did not have a social life, even within my family. After joining the center, I found many people like me who had love I started to feel that my disability was normal and I dealt with it positively. I started receiving physical therapy and special education. I began to learn and know how to read and write. Then I was included in vocational training and learned embroidery and making cleaning supplies. I also made friends and had a beautiful family. I miss them if they are gone from me. I also leave my room every day and go to the center’s vocational training department with my friends, and we learn new crafts. I am very happy in the midst of this wonderful family that provides me with love and teaches me optimism and life.
Meanwhile, “Muhammad,” a 36-year-old beneficiary of the center’s permanent shelter services, indicated that he previously worked in a bamboo-making workshop that was closed, which caused him psychological trauma and he became unable to work as a result of the health conditions that befell him. He says “Mohamed”: Praise be to God, I joined the Hamad Bin Jassim Center for Integrated Rehabilitation Care, where the center’s staff surrounded me with great care and attention. The center also provided me with a healthy social life and shelter, which gave me the hope that I had lost for a period of time. Now I am learning many manual trades and I hope to return to My previous job after I completed my recovery period.
